Serenade is the Name of our Group.
During the pandemic year of 2020, we played at several retirement communities.
Because of Covid-19 restrictions we were not allowed inside the community buildings. We “serenaded” the members of the communities from the outside.
It is our hope that we were able to mitigate the isolation that the members of these communities experienced during a year of lockdowns and social distancing.

About Us
David Thorp is our violist. George Weis is our Cellist. David and George first met at the Manhattan School of Music forty years ago, where they were both music students. They played together several times at music school before losing track of each other.
Many years later they met again while both playing in the Auburn Symphony and formed Serenade in order to explore the rich repertoire of duets written for Cello and Viola.
Our repertoire is not limited to pieces for Viola and Cello alone, however.
David is a gifted arranger as well as a skilled violist, and has been able to arrange many favorite tunes and pieces for our instruments. We are constantly looking for suggestions on how to expand our repertoire. We may be able accommodate special requests if we are given sufficient notice.

About George Weis
George Weis currently plays full time with the Auburn Symphony and part time with other orchestras in the area.
During his career as a musician, he played in the Regional Orchestra of the Picardy in France, the Heidelberg Chamber Orchestra in Germany and as the Cellist of the Haydn Quartet at the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria. His “real” job is currently as a senior programmer with All Weather, Incorporated, a weather instrumentation company based in Natomas, but his “real” love remains and will remain music. He is also the proud, and sometimes frustrated father of two teenage girls. |
